"there's noting wrong with spending time with yourself."
Before the year ends, I guess it’s a good time to talk about what I learned.
Lesson 1 – The difference between being alone and being lonely. One thing that I have struggled with over the years is sitting with myself. If 2025, didn’t teach me anything else, it taught me just how much I enjoy my own company. Navigating being single at 38 is interesting, all the things that I thought I wanted, I don’t want anymore. So solitude gave me space to figure out what’s next for me when it comes to romance, intimacy … sex (we will talk about that more next year).
Lesson 2 – A space of your own is sacred. Now this one may sound the same as the last one, but it’s not at all. I spent the last 15 years of my life curating spaces that were aesthetically pleasing to the masses, or to appease (or not) the tastes of whichever person I was choosing to cohabitate with at the time. One of the best feelings is now being in space that is just for me. I can buy whatever furniture I want. I can put things away wherever I want them to. I can be free to create a space that embodies and encapsulates who I am, as an individual.
Lesson 3 – This one is simple. Rest. This year I did not over work myself, I found new ways to be creative, I felt the spark coming back. For the first time in a long time there is a stead enough peace in my life that I can create again. And not because I need money, but because I want to create. That’s yet another thing that living alone helps, there is a quiet confidence you have when you know its just you, you can say what you want, act how you want, be who you want.
